JUNE 5
On the 5th June 2021, Julie Jones and her friends Alex and Amy took on the Dartmoor Ultramarathon and raised an amazing £3961.75 for SAMM. They completed the challenge in memory of Julie’s daughter Joanna who was murdered.
On her fundraising page Julie said: “My beautiful daughter Joanna was murdered 15yrs ago this year. She was 20yrs old and kind and funny and very clever and I miss her every day. Last year I joined this amazing charity SAMM (Support After Murder and Manslaughter) and have met other parents and relatives who have shared their experiences with me and are helping me so much. So when my friend Alex asked me to run the Dartmoor Discovery again this year – the UK’s longest single lap road ultra marathon, 32miles with 4000ft of elevation up on Dartmoor – I agreed, if we could also try and raise some money for SAMM. So we also signed up Amy and became a team of 3, all training alone in different parts of the country”
