Sylvia Smithies

Trustee
My son Lee was murdered in 2002. He was 36yrs old. I joined SAMM about four years later and since joining I have received so much help and support that when I felt in a better place I thought I was ready to give something back to SAMM as an organisation and to our many and growing number of members. I became a Support Volunteer and then later a Trustee in 2013.

I worked in the care profession from 1980 and retired from my role of Deputy Manager in 2010. I then felt that I could devote much more time supporting others as I have good listening skills, empathy, consideration and the knowledge needed to support others in my role as Support Volunteer and Trustee.
